There are about a jillion species of flies. This is one of them! I believe him to be sap sucking variety, but I couldn’t get him to talk (or eat for that matter). I like the photo for its balance. It’s also interesting in that it very accurately demonstrates the photographic concept of ‘depth of focus’. If you look at the small projectiles arising from the leaf surface, you will note they are out of focus in front of the fly, and out of focus behind the fly. That 1/10 of an inch slice of ‘in focus’ space is what you have to work with as the photographer. Failure is common.
