Blood Root #1

I traditionally find Blood Root’s short lived blooms on limestone outcrops. It will on occasion be out earlier than Spring Beauty. Blood Root gets its name from the red root, and bright red sap within it. Blood Root was one of the many plants used in medicinal and spiritual tradition by Native Americans. Another of my favorite pastimes of spring is hanging on a precarious ledge while trying to photograph it.
