Split Rock Key takes on the image being suspended at the water sky interface. Split Rock is also known as Destroyer Key and has a significantly different ecology than the traditional mangrove keys that make up the Mule Keys.
That results from the key being formed from dredge spoils following the purposeful beaching of a destroyer by a navy captain escaping a hurricane. Arial views further show the dredged channel created to save the ship.
This is the same group of islands that make up the Seascape ‘Split Rock/Destroyer Key – Up Close and Personal #20’. But the mood and perspective couldn’t be more different.
